The Game Awards had great moments like Reggie Fils-Aimé giving a great speech to open the Fresh Indie Game award, Bunsen Honeydew and Beaker giving a great Untitled Goose Game segment, and surprisingly seeing Michelle Rodriguez and Vin Diesel there to announce a Fast and Furious game, while also presenting the Game of the Year award. However, a lot of games were announced or showed off a new trailer. With that, these are my five favorite reveals of The Game Awards 2019.
5) Gears Tactics Trailer
Sure, a Gears Tactics trailer isn’t a lucrative reveal, but the game looks very fun to play as a turn-based game that is set in the Gears universe. The characters are fun and the customization is pretty extensive. The campaign is 40+ hours so that part no thank you, but it still looks like it would be a fun game to try out for a few hours. It is launching on April 28th of 2020 on PC.
4) Godfall is the First PS5 Game Announced
Godfall by Counterplay Games and published by Gearbox Games is described as a looter-slasher. It will have up to three-player co-op, but can also be played alone. This excites me mainly because it was the first PS5 game to be shown, that is truly all.
3) Wolf Among Us Season 2 Re-Announcement
Wolf Among Us Season 2 was announced last year before the fall of Telltale Games as a whole. However, as Telltale Games has, sort of, resurrected, so has the possibility of old projects resurfacing. Wolf Among Us Season 2 was surprisingly announced with a tease earlier in the morning by Roger Craig Smith, the voice of Bigby. The trailer does not show too much, except Bigby and Snow from Season 1. Geoff Keighly mentioned he had surprises for The Game Awards this year and this was surely one of them.
2) Ghost of Tsushima Release Window
The longest trailer in all of The Game Awards truly did not disappoint. Sucker Punch’s Ghost of Tsushima’s new trailer showed new gameplay, brutal kills, and gorgeous views. The trailer ended with a release window, Summer 2020. During the summer, I will be ready to have epic sword fights and be a “ghost” to all of Tsushima.
1) Xbox Series X and Hellblade II: Senua’s Saga
Microsoft showed off the first look at their new console after a week of teases from Phil Spencer, Executive Vice-President of Gaming at Microsoft. The new console, titled Xbox Series X, is in the shape of a PC tower essentially. The game they showed the Xbox Series X off was Ninja Theory’s sequel to the acclaimed Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice. The trailer was gorgeous in all of its detail but also showed very awesome and eerie character moments. Overall, these two announcements together were easily the best announcement of all The Game Awards. A new console and a beautiful looking game to begin The Game Awards.
That is all from The Game Awards this year. Sadly no Batman, however the show overall was good and definitely worth my time. Thanks for reading and until next time!
