My Most Anticipated Games in 2020

Writer's picture: Joey BrunoJoey Bruno

Last year had a bunch of great games like Resident Evil 2, Kingdom Hearts 3, Disco Elysium, etc, etc. However, 2020 seems like a year that could rival in 2017 and 2018 in the scope of video games with the likes of some of these games you are about to read, but the big thing that is happening this year is that Xbox and Playstation both have new consoles being released later this year. So, my most anticipated games of this year, are mostly from the first half of the year which is pretty insane to think about, but also sad to think about due to my wallet. However! Here are the games I am most excited to play this year! So far!

5) Resident Evil 3 Remake

Resident Evil 2 Remake happened to be one of my favorite games of 2019. The atmosphere of the Raccoon City Police Department was enthralling and Mr. X was menacing. Now, bring all of that back and make Mr. X look like a cupcake compared to Nemesis and that makes me pumped for this game!

4) Ghost of Tsushima

Sucker Punch has been one of my favorite developers since I have been playing the Infamous series back in high school. They have made some of my favorite characters and I cannot wait to see what they do with this Ghost character we get to play as along with the setting based in Tsushima, Japan. This is what Sekiro could be in my life, just without the insane difficulty and more Sucker Punch touch I love.

3) Final Fantasy VII Remake

So, I have still never played a single Final Fantasy game in my life. However, the esteem Final Fantasy VII gets is astounding and for the past few years I have bought the game a couple of times to try and play it, but I never get through the opening segments because of other things.

This action, Kingdom Hearts-like battle system, is something that I am truly excited for in Final Fantasy VII Remake because I love that type of gameplay in general. Now, sure, the classic version of the game I will still own and will be able to play the turn-based style of it. However, this is a great entry point for myself and others I believe. People will get to see this story for how great it is and why it is such a monumental moment for the PS1, that I sadly did not get to experience.

2) Cyberpunk 2077

CD Projekt Red has been a powerhouse for the last few years. In gaming. Essentially because of how expansive, intricate, and interesting The Witcher 3 is. However, Cyberpunk 2077 was revealed in 2012 and is being released after The Witcher 3, in 2020. However, the magnitude of the choices seem intense and all-encompassing like an RPG in this style should be. For me, the setting is more of my style of interest than The Witcher. I love a more sci-fi type of setting compared to a Medieval type of setting.

The way you can create and upgrade your character with technology is a great way to even just think about the RPG aspects. Also, Keanu Reeves is in this game in a more expansive role than first seemed, so that makes me even more excited. Put Keanu Reeves in something at this point and I will be intrigued.

1) The Last of Us Part Two

The Last of Us has been one of my favorite games since it has come out in 2013. The story, the world itself, Clickers, and the combat have been some of my favorites since its released. For The Last of Us Part Two, this all seems ramped up to another level into beautiful intricate while also sometimes horrifying ways. Ellie is older and more amazing, Joel is a grizzled old man now, all the side characters have been so connected and so emotion-filled, and we have barely seen Clickers in the trailers.

Thankfully, the trailers have been enthralling in a good way, and in a tense way; which makes the grand Last of Us experience in general. The first time you hear Clickers in the most recent trailer for the State of Play in October, you are terrified. I felt a chill attacking my entire body essentially. But, the character dynamics are what is most important to me in The Last of Us and so far, they seem excellent in ways they can all motivate other characters.

Those are my most anticipated games of this year! I hope you all have a grand year and are ready for some grand stuff here! ‘Till next time!
