My History With Playstation

Playstation is celebrating its 25th anniversary this month which brings me back to my childhood. For the majority of my life, I have been a Playstation person. Each startup sound for each of these four consoles will be ingrained in my mind for most of my life I would say.

To begin this Playstation fandom of mine, I had a Playstation 1 as a young Kindergartener. I was engrossed in many games while playing with friends during those years, mostly just small kids games, but still making bonds with friends over the PS1. The mainstays in my young Playstation life were Spyro and Crash Bandicoot. Those were the games I heavily associate my time with the Playstation 1. Now, I played other games with my family in New York. One fond memory I have is playing a baseball game on the PS1 with my late uncle each time and just laughing as we do crazy things during the game. Other times, playing Tony Hawk with my cousins and each of us getting turns as the nights of my trip went on and on.

However, another important console in my life was the Playstation 2. I have no true recollection of when I got the console. However, I remember going to Walmart with my parents and picking out two games and the console. The two games I got were Jak & Daxter: The Precursor Legacy and James Bond 007: Agent Under Fire. Both of these came out around Christmas 2001, so if I had to guess when I got the PS2, it would be then. This console brought me many memories and some of my favorite series in games. Most notably, series like Ratchet & Clank, Jak & Daxter, and Kingdom Hearts. Though, many long nights were engulfed in Dragon Ball Z Budokai 2 and Madden 07.

In the next generation of games, I was an Xbox 360 person. I acquired one for Christmas in 2005 or 2006, one of the two. But, for Christmas 2010 I returned to the Playstation world and got a Playstation 3. The PS3 bought me many series I loved. I also learned this generation that I have loved many developers for most of my life, which at that point felt pretty weird. A series I will always try to play every few years is the Uncharted series. I always heard that these games were amazing when I first got a PS3. So this was a series I definitely wanted to try and get into. I also was able to share a lot of memories of fighting thugs in Batman with some of my friends in the Arkham series, which is always a fun time. The PS3 was not as involved in my life as these other consoles since I basically had a new console almost three years after I received the PS3. However, the games and journeys I played were all exceptional and opened my eyes to many more games I did not want to try before.

Now for the Playstation 4, this was the first console I was able to pay for. It was a very momentous occasion in that regard and I still am glad to be able to pay for it on my own accord. I waited in line at the midnight release and turned that sucker on when I got home. The PS4 has had some incredible games. The game that had the most impact on my life would probably be Gone Home. That game changed the fabric of my enjoyment in games that are considered “Walking Simulators”. After that game, I knew those types of games could tell stories in ways I did not expect. Then, when God of War came out last year, it was an incredible way to mesh the incredible story, the reemergence of Kratos, and combat together into one great game that I will love for my whole life. This entire console generation has been incredible. I have many fond memories and moments of all different types of games I played and sharing some of these grand moments with my friends.

Most likely with the PS4, I will be getting a PS5 the day it comes out. As the console generations continue, hopefully, my love for Playstation will also continue. As long as I keep playing amazing games by amazing developers, I think that love will always be there. Thanks for taking the time to read this post! ‘Till next time!
